These Toronto Malls Are Completely Changing & Colour-Coded Pick-Ups Are The New Norm

Say goodbye to indoor shopping.
Staff Writer

Holiday shopping in the 6ix is going to look a lot different this year.

Three popular Toronto malls — Yorkdale Mall, Square One Shopping Centre, and Scarborough Town Centre — are all making use of new features that will allow you shop for presents during the city's lockdown.

Some of their new changes include colour-coded pick-up locations, online maps and text-lines for gift recommendations.

Each mall's website now has a list of shops that are offering storefront or curbside pick-up and their hours of operation.

Not every shop is on that list, but it is being updated as more and more shops add the option.

When shoppers come to pick up their items, they will use the new colour-coded pick-up locations in the parking lots outside of their complexes.

Customers are still being asked to stay socially distanced and not loiter in the parking lots in case line-ups form.

In order to replace in-person browsing time, the malls will also be launching a text service for shoppers to get gift recommendations from a specific mall.

The new lockdown rules will be in place until at least December 21, which means that non-essential retailers will only be able to provide curbside pickup shopping until then.

But it seems as though more and more shops have already begun to adapt and shift to the new reality for retailers in Toronto.
