Toronto police have launched an investigation into a car theft that took place over the weekend.

The incident, which appeared to take place in the Junction on Sunday, saw a driver travel nearly a block on a residential sidewalk.

The red SUV can be seen barreling down the sidewalk at high speed before turning onto another road.

According to police, officers initially received reports of a stolen red-coloured SUV in the Pacific Avenue and Vine Avenue area at approximately 7:30 p.m. on May 30.

It was later reported that the driver of the stolen vehicle was "driving erratically." The vehicle reportedly ended up crashing into a nearby fence before the suspect fled on foot.

Police told Narcity that the investigation is ongoing.
