If you thought winter was cancelled, think again. Toronto is about to get hit with its first snow of the year, with the possibility for multiple rounds of the white stuff through next week.

After a green Christmas and a winter that hasn't been very cold, Toronto finally got its first -6 C day of the season on Thursday, the latest on record.

It looks like the plunge in temperature is ushering in more wintry weather, with flurries and even a snowstorm in the forecast, so hopefully you still have your winter boots ready.

According to The Weather Network, a snow squall threat will spread across parts of the Greater Toronto Area this weekend, with "an intense band of snow" near the city of Toronto.

With 3-5 centimetres in the forecast, drivers are being urged to leave plenty of time to get to their destination this weekend and stay alert.

According to TWN, the shores of Lake Ontario from Burlington to Oshawa, including Toronto, are all at risk of seeing some heavy snow. However, due to the nature of snow squalls, the weather outlet notes that there is room for change.

The system would mark Toronto's first snowfall of the year. But according to weather reports, it's not the system to watch.

A bigger snowstorm could arrive in Toronto next week as a massive Texas low brings wintry weather to millions across North America.

The low-pressure system, which originates in the panhandle region of Texas and Oklahoma and is known to usually deposit heavy snow north of its track, is set to impact Ontario late on Tuesday, says TWN.

Parts of the province can expect "a swath of heavy snowfall through Wednesday, with some rain mixing in for those south of the low-pressure centre," of what would be the first major storm of 2024.

According to CityNews 680 meteorologist Jill Taylor, the storm could bring "significant" snow, rain and strong winds to Toronto, but at this point, it's too early to say exactly how much snow the city could get.

Sounds like you'll want to have the shovels ready though, just in case!
