It's official: Toronto's Pearson Airport just won the title for best airport in North America for the fourth year in a row.

The Airports Council International has named Pearson the "Best Large Airport in North America serving more than 40 million passengers", as well as the airport with the "Best Hygiene Measures by Region" in North America.

The AIC determines which airport lands the first place spot by surveying passengers on 34 key indicators after they disembark from their flight, says the council.

The award for best hygienic practices was awarded to Pearson due in large part to their Healthy Airport program, which includes measures such as "mask wearing and limited terminal access; innovative solutions such as UV-C light disinfection and air quality monitoring."

In addition to these measures, Toronto Pearson has made COVID-19 tests mandatory for all incoming international travellers.

Anyone entering the country through Pearson will also be subject to a stay in one of Toronto's quarantine hotels until they can produce a negative COVID-19 test.

In 2019, Toronto Pearson served over 50 million passengers, according to the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, "making it Canada's busiest airport."

In the past, they've even introduced therapy dogs to keep passengers company and help alleviate the stress of flying.
