Shoppers lined up before sunrise at Vaughan Mills shopping centre in York Region to score some Black Friday deals.

Some had been lined up outside of the mall's Nike store, which opened for business at 8:00 a.m., since 5:30 this morning.

At some stores, shoppers were briefed by employees on health and safety protocols before they were allowed inside.

Security staff also patrolled the lines and stood at the entrances.

Despite the long lineups at certain stores, the mall was pretty quiet when it opened; shoppers waited while stores prepared to open.

Despite being in the grey zone, or lockdown, many big-box retailers have been deemed essential and are therefore open for Black Friday.

Stores selling non-essential items can only offer curbside pickup and online shopping in the lockdown zones.
