Langley Lottery Winners Plan to Spoil Their Cats with ‘Best Scratch Post Money Can Buy’

That's one way to spend the money.
Staff Writer

For many, winning the lottery means no more job, vacations every weekend, and designer clothes. But for the latest B.C. lottery winners, it means spoiling their cats. If you’ve never been jealous of a house cat's life, this may change your mind.

There have been some serious lotto winners in Western Canada as of late.

From BFFs winning a large sum of money to a husband and wife duo taking home a large amount of cash at the same time, it seems we have heard every possible lottery story.

But the newest one will capture the hearts of cat people around the globe.

According to an email sent to Narcity by BCLC, two Langley residents have taken home $500,000.

Stefan Steinebach and Carly Higo won the Daily Grand draw on Thursday, July 16.

The couple originally won the $25,000 a year for life but opted to take the large lump sum upfront.

They discovered they were the winners while standing in their kitchen, scanning the ticket on their lottery app.

While most people would be spending their winnings on a new vacation or a luxury home, the duo plans to spend it on their cats.

Steinebach told BCLC that they love to spoil their “fur babies” so they're looking to do that even more.

But they aren’t looking at any type of luxury litter box. Instead, the couple has their sights set on a top of the line scratching post.

“We’ll probably go out and buy the best scratch post money can buy, because there’s nothing like spending some money on something they’ll scratch the hell out of,” said Steinebach.

Apparently, their cats have already clawed their way through a few scratching posts so this is a necessity.

“I don’t know how much they cost, but it’ll be the fanciest one possible,” said the new lottery winner.

Eventually, down the road, the couple will put the money towards buying their dream home but there seems to be more pressing issues right meow.

If you feel like testing your luck, the next Daily Grand draws are on Thursday, July 30 and Monday, August 3.

The top prize is $1,000 a day for life.

Just imagine all the treats and goodies you could buy for your own fur babies.
