Tofino beaches. Right: Vancouver Island beach.

Canada might not be known for its sunny vacation spots but, if you know where to look, there are some stunning shorelines with soft white sand and cute small towns. This one town in B.C. has been named among the best of the best, if you want a beachy vacation this summer (and who doesn't?).

We asked readers on the Narcity Canada's Facebook page to reveal what the best summer beach towns in Canada are, and Tofino was a favourite.

If you haven't already heard of this dreamy little town on the west coast of Vancouver Island, then you're going to need to pull out your bucket list — because you've got a new addition to make.

Tofino is known for its scenic coastline, peppered with white sand beaches set alongside lush rainforest and jagged shore. Its little town center is full of small businesses, from kitschy souvenir shops where you can get mementos, to cafes with mouthwatering donut selections (looking at you Rhino) and surf shops that boost the beach-town vibes.

The rugged beauty of the area is what really draws people in during the summer months though. It's got not one, not two, but seven official beaches in its vicinity. We've got Cox Bay Beach as a go-to for reliable waves and scenic views.

Florencia Bay is where you'll find a blend of the elements, set in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Thick greenery grows next to the shoreline, which you can access by walking a 1.2-kilometre-long trail (it's worth the effort to get here).

Long Beach has earned its name for a reason (16 kilometres of sand!). This beach also has the beautiful rainforest full of old-growth trees alongside it. Incinerator Rock is a landmark of the beach, and a backdrop for many photos. Wickaninnish Beach is all soft sand and crashing waves. It's actually set within Long Beach – because, yes, it's that large.

MacKenzie Beach is a more low-key option, tucked away in a sheltered cove that makes the water calmer.

Then we've got North and South Chesterman Beach, which are joined together by a sandspit. Time it right and you can walk out to Frank Island from here.

With this many beaches it's hard to imagine wanting to do anything but sit out on the sand and enjoy the sun, but there is a long list of activities that you can do here. A well-rounded vacation is pretty easy to achieve.

Rent a bike to get in some movement on the long paved trail running through the area, or opt to go off-land by renting a surfboard.

Hiking trails are basically endless here, taking you deep into the forest and surrounding you with the deep green hues and fresh rainforest smell.

There are a ton of tours to choose from, too, from whale-watching adventures to hot spring outings. So, yeah – you won't be bored.

A cap on the day here is grabbing some fish and chips and a beer at Tofino Brewing Co., before watching the sun go down at the wharf.
