Up against the likes of charming European destinations and stunning resort towns around the world, this Canadian spot just took the #1 title for the "best small city in the world."

Condé Nast’s 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards were just revealed, and on the list of the best cities in the world, Victoria, B.C. came out on top for the small cities.

B.C. got some serious recognition overall because Vancouver took sixth place in the list of the best big cities.

On the list of small cities Victoria was the only Canadian representation, and CN Traveller highlighted the unique beauty of not only the city but Vancouver Island as a whole.

"Arrive via one of the world's most scenic ferry rides across Swartz Bay and check in to the bucket list-worthy Fairmont Empress, where the Fairmont Gold rooms include access to a private waterfront lounge," the list said.

If you've ever been on the BC Ferries ride from Vancouver to Victoria, you can attest to just how stunning it really is. While the ride there is an experience in itself, exploring the island is a key part to a Victoria visit.

"If you're seeking a more rural escape, disconnect in the ancient forests with a road trip on Vancouver Island," it added. Popular destinations like Tofino and the Juan de Fuca trail are perfect examples of the island's beauty that the city is a gateway to.

You don't have to go from the city for a good time though. The food scene in the area also got some praise, specifically the "proper high tea" offered at various restaurants and hotels, harking back to the British heritage.

Whether you're a travelling looking for your next week away or a B.C. local who wants to play tourist in their home province – you know where to go next.
