A small island in B.C., home to rolling fields of lavender, ancient forest, and ocean vistas, was just named one of the world's best places to travel in 2025.

BC Ferries can bring you to the tiny community, where you can escape into nature, leaving the worries of everyday life to float away in the ocean breeze.

Travel Lemming put together a list of places from around the globe, crafting the bucketlist adventures for the year to come. Salt Spring Island came in at 38th on the list of 50 spots, sandwiched between Zamora in Spain and Franschhoek, South Africa.

Salt Spring is a little island tucked away in the Salish Sea, a part of the group of Gulf Islands, and deserves its place on the list and most definitely merits a visit in 2025.

Stepping off the BC Ferries boat — which will whisk you away from Vancouver Island to Salt Spring Island's shores — you'll instantly get a sense of the vibe. You'll spot roadside farm stands along the winding pavement and eclectically decorated places that exude artistic energy. It's undoubtedly a hub for creativity, and it's not hard to imagine why.

Even the most unartistic people can't help but be a little inspired by the natural beauty on the island. To one side you have the sparkling blue ocean with pebbly beaches, and to the other, you have stretches of farmland broken up by towering trees and local galleries.

You can explore the island in the span of a day, but you'll most definitely want longer once you arrive, so you have time to take in all of the small businesses, oceanside hikes, and beautiful views.

The main town here, Ganges, is where you can wander between quaint shops, picking up things like handmade crafts and seasonal produce.

Then you can take your pick of cideries on the island, where you can sit outside on a warm day and breathe in the salty air while trying the local flavours.

There's also an incredible lavender farm on the island, so you can spend an afternoon strolling around the fields and stocking up on fresh lavender to take home.

Driving around the island you can stop by some of the farmstands that it's famous for, where you can take some of the goods and be trusted to leave behind payment.

There are also galleries all around that you can take a tour of and see the beautiful artwork of the community.

The outdoors is the show-stopper here though, with hikes, cycling trails, boating, and beaches to roam.

While the West Coast in general is home to some of the most remarkable places in the country, often known for its mountain peaks, it's well worth adding the Gulf Islands specifically to your travel list. Starting at Salt Spring you can take off on BC Ferries and explore some of the other island communities around.

You won't be disappointed if you book a trip to Salt Spring Island, so get out your 2025 calendar.
