The best islands in the world were revealed in a recent ranking, and this Canadian destination landed a spot on the list.

Vancouver Island is known far and wide for its lush nature and unparalleled beauty, so there's no question why it was honoured with a place on the list.

Conde Nast Traveller surveyed their readers to create the annual Reader's Choice Awards, and on the best islands in the world list there were two Canadian islands. Vancouver Island took the top spot in Canada, with Cape Breton Island behind it.

The journey to Vancouver Island for many starts on a beautiful note, sailing across the ocean on BC Ferries from Vancouver. You'll look out from the deck and be privy to classic West Coast scenery — mountains, water, and little islands.

Once there it's an explorer's paradise, with an array of natural wonders, stunning beaches stretching along the coastline, and mountain hikes.

Adventure into the rugged wilderness of Strathcona Park to see mountain peaks and untouched nature.

Visit the famous surfing town of Tofino to walk through a rainforest or stroll along white sand beaches.

Head up to the Juan de Fuca Strait and explore some of the most scenic parts of the trail there, which include hidden waterfalls and sea caves.

Or, embrace city life by visiting Victoria, trying out some amazing restaurants and doing some shopping.

The massive island is also the perfect gateway to other little islands, like Salt Spring Island, which are the ideal day trip adventure. All in all, there's no shortage of things to do on Vancouver Island, and all of them are stunning.
