The local billboards in your neighbourhood might barely catch your eye, but there's a J.K. Rowling billboard in Vancouver that was hard to miss and has now been taken down.

According to the Vancouver Sun, the billboard was put up by Chris Elston, a Surrey man who's been very vocal about his love and support for the Harry Potter author.

The giant advertisement created controversy pretty much immediately and Vancouver City Councillor Sarah Kirby-Yung asked the company that owns the billboard to take it down.

She called it a "clear, intentional messaging meant to stoke hate, exclusion & division" in her tweet to the Pattison company, who responded by removing it quickly.

J.K. Rowling has been called out for her transphobic comments on social media in the past and faced a backlash from fans and corporations.
