A couple in B.C. took home a big win from the Lotto Max after their typical grocery shopping run took a shocking turn.

Christine and Robert Loewen of Maple Ridge, B.C., had a regular day turn into a dream come true when they discovered they’d won $1 million.

The lucky couple snagged the winning Lotto Max ticket from the August 6, 2024, draw and validated it at Fifth Avenue Grocery on 216 Street.

Robert shared the moment of disbelief and excitement, saying, “I said, ‘No!’ and scanned it again. I was excited and called Christine over to look.” Their ticket officially made them $1 million richer, though they still hadn't told anyone the big news, as they went to claim the prize!

The Loewens plan to consult a financial advisor before deciding how to spend their jackpot. “Unreal, we’re still in disbelief. We haven’t slept!” Christine told BCLC, still buzzing from their unexpected windfall.

In 2024 alone, B.C. lottery players have redeemed over $132 million in prizes through Lotto Max, which holds draws every Tuesday and Friday.

While Christine and Robert are still figuring out how to enjoy their winnings, it's wild to think how an ordinary grocery run can take a big turn.
