This oceanside retreat set in a small BC beach town was just rated among the top in the world

This breathtaking getaway spot sits perched on the edge of a dramatic coastline, with the ocean at its front and an ancient rainforest at its back. Incognito inspectors pose as everyday guests —checking in at hotels, embarking on cruises, taking in spa treatments and dining at fine restaurants. They test hundreds of exacting standards that emphasize exceptional service," the release said.

Wickaninnish Inn passed the test with flying colours, securing a spot among the award-winners with a Four-Star rating. According to Forbes Travel Guide, Four-Star spots "are exceptional properties, offering high levels of service and quality of facility to match."

It's not hard to imagine why, looking at the floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the rugged wilderness and powerful stretch of ocean beyond. The unique location, in the famous surfing town of Tofino, sets this place apart.

The interior adds another level of brilliance though, with cozy rooms featuring fireplaces and private balconies, a top-tier restaurant and a beautiful onsite spa.

You can spend a weekend here never leaving the property, being immersed in nature while feeling pampered at the same time. The surrounding area is worth stepping out for, though.

Walk along or go for a surf at one of the sandy beaches here — like the nearby Chesterman Beach — or wander into the lush rainforest on the many trails.
