This breathtaking small town in Alberta was just named one of the top destination dupes

Sub out the big city for this charming mountain town. ✨

Banff, Alberta, Canada.

A town with a mountain in the background.

Destination dupes have taken over the travel itineraries of people everywhere, offering up few crowds and lower prices but the same beauty and adventure as some of the most famed destinations in the world. On a recent list a small town in Alberta came out on top for one of the best destination dupes, to swap in over an overcrowded city.

The Cheapflights list gathered up some of the "hidden gem destinations in Canada" that offer up the "perfect 'destination dupes' to some of America's favourite spots.

"Cheapflights used internal data to identify the most popular destinations based on key factors such as search volume, and flight prices. It then considered flight length, cultural and landscape similarities, and cost of living items such as a meal out, beer and monthly travel pass, to provide travellers with equally attractive yet less crowded options," the release said.

A few Canadian spots made the list of alternative destinations, with Winnipeg as a substitute for Edmonton, Vancouver subbing out Seattle, and finally Banff in place of Denver.

Comparing costs they found that travelling to Banff over Denver could be better on your wallet, with cheaper hotel options and food.

While nature is at the forefront of a Denver trip, Banff's beauty rivals it. The mountain town, just an hour from Calgary, is in the Canadian Rockies and offers a chill vibe away from a city's hustle and bustle.

As a popular tourist town though you still get great restaurants and loads of activities to choose from.

"Banff has a more laid-back vibe and life is closer to nature here – which also means there are often fewer crowds and cheaper prices overall," the list said

So if you're hoping to swap the busy streets of a big city out, head to Banff!
