Singh's tweet said that Trump is to blame for the violence that has unfolded at the U.S. Capitol.

"He can end it now, but refuses to," he wrote. "Democracy must not be intimidated."

Justin Trudeau also spoke of the pro-Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol, saying that Canada would keep a close watch.

After being urged to do so by Joe Biden, Donald Trump issued a video statement which told protestors to "go home in peace."

Earlier in the day, the president tweeted "I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!"
