People are pleading desperately with President-elect Joe Biden to have a virtual Inauguration Day because they're worried about his and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris' safety.

This comes after incumbent President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency in Washington D.C. through January 24.

Following the U.S. Capitol riots, many are fearful of violent protests and rallies in the days leading up to and on Inauguration Day on January 20 that may put Biden and Harris at risk.

The Defense Department has already authorized as many as 15,000 troops to be deployed to the nation's capital during the Inauguration.

"Right now we have 10,000 inbound and we’re authorized to go to [15,000]," said National Guard Bureau chief Gen. Daniel Hokanson.

Discussions about the possibility of a virtual event have gone viral on Twitter and #VitualInauguration was trending on Tuesday.

Many people on Twitter argued that the Inauguration should be held at a heavily-fortified, undisclosed location and be broadcasted live on TV.

Others suggested that Biden have a small, intimate Inauguration ceremony that could be celebrated later "once it's safer."

In a day and age when people are accustomed to virtual events, many seem to support the idea of a Biden taking the oath virtually.

As of now, neither Biden nor Harris has commented on the option of a virtual Inauguration.
