A Huge Winter Storm & 50 cm Of Snow Is Heading For Atlantic Canada Right Now

Brace yourselves! 🥶❄️
Managing Editor, Canada

Things are about to get chilly! Atlantic Canada’s weather has a huge winter storm in the forecast and over 50 centimetres of snow is expected to fall in some regions.

On Monday, December 14, The Weather Network revealed that a wild “winter storm” was heading for some parts of Atlantic Canada.

50+ cm Of snow is expected

Per their report, the region is in for an extremely stormy week, with multiple systems passing through.

This will bring over 50 centimetres of heavy snow to northern spots, and between 20 and 30 centimetres along the western coast.

It’s not just heavy snow on the horizon, either.

According to their report, significant rainfall is also coming, with 20 to 30 millimetres expected through Tuesday.

“Howling winds” are also incoming, with speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour incoming on the same day.

These conditions are likely to cause blowing snow and poor visibility, therefore locals can expect travelling to be difficult during the wintry storm.

Areas like Newfoundland and Cape Breton Island remain under winter storm watches, snow squall watches, snowfall warnings and special weather statements ahead of the incoming conditions.

If you were hoping it would all be over by Wednesday, think again!

Forecasters are warning of a potential “nor'easter” to impact parts of Atlantic Canada by the end of the week, which means an extratropical cyclone could also be in the cards.

Best wrap up warm this week, eh?
