When you think of beach towns, you might envision sun-filled skies, sandy shores and tropical vibes. While this dreamy waterside village in Ontario is a summer hotspot, winter brings a new kind of magic to the area.

You'll find cozy charm, frosty dunes and more at this winter gem located a road trip away from Toronto.

Wasaga Beach is a beautiful destination perched along the shores of Nottawasaga Bay. It's home to the world's longest freshwater beach, boasting 14 kilometres of white sand shores.

According to Explore Wasaga Beach, the destination is a "summer haven" that transforms into a "frosty winter wonderland" with "blanketed dunes and snow-capped pines."

You can wander along the sandy shores, which turn into "dramatic ice-sculpted landscapes" during the winter months. It's important to admire the ice formations from a distance, as climbing on them is unsafe.

Other fun winter activities in Wasaga Beach include snowmobiling and skiing or snowshoeing along the 24.2 kilometres of groomed trails.

You can find rentals, trails, and more at the Wasaga Beach Nordic Centre, which is operated by Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. There are also ice skating rinks and snowy hikes to enjoy in the area.

The town boasts several restaurants where you can warm up and dig into some delicious meals.

With frosty dunes and magical views, this Ontario beach town is a hidden winter gem.
