The 1000 Islands is a scenic region with gorgeous shorelines and coastal charm. Nestled along the border between northern New York State and southeastern Ontario, the area is brimming with quaint villages and unique attractions.

According to the website, it's a "sightseer's paradise" and is home to 1,864 islands, fairytale castles, shipwrecks and rich history.

There are numerous outdoor activities to enjoy, from cruising around the crystal waters to fishing, hiking and paddling.

Some top attractions include the 1000 Islands Tower, Canada's Penitentiary Museum and the Thousand Islands National Park.

Boldt Castle is a magical place to explore, but be sure to bring your passport as it is located on the U.S. side of the region.
