Tucked away in the Rockies is this Alberta ski resort, surrounded by the picturesque peaks that the area is famed for but without the price tag that usually comes with it.

Just a few hours away from the city of Calgary this spot is the second-largest ski area in the province, and it was just named among the least expensive in Canada.

Casino.org recently revealed a study that ranked Canada's most and least expensive ski resorts to visit in 2024, accounting for daily cost factors. The average costs of accommodation and meals, as well as lift ticket prices, equipment rentals and group lesson costs, were all compared.

On the list of 20 destinations Castle Mountain Resort in Alberta was on the cheaper end, coming in as the fourth most affordable ski resort in Canada.

It's clear from the resort's website that it prides itself on its prices, saying that "Castle Mountain Resort isn’t run by accountants working for some mega-corporation. It’s owned and operated by skiers who are driven by adrenaline, not profit."

That sentiment is reflected in its costs, with list tickets going for $112, rentals costing $60, and the average meal prices at $27, according to the ranking. The total cost for a day here sits at $515, which is pretty low compared to the most expensive on the list — Banff Sunshine Village Ski Resort. A day at the other Alberta resort is estimated to cost $1,027.50.

The small resort has an old-school ski village feel, with a pub and lodge to enjoy après-ski at. The Castle Ski Lodge is the only hotel here and it's just 100 meters from the ski base lifts, so almost a ski-in-ski-out situation.

The T-Bar Pub is the gathering spot for the end of the day, with live music every Friday during the winter and other events like trivia night bringing the community together.

This resort brings it back to basics, so if you want an affordable getaway with a cozy atmosphere and good conditions, this is the spot to go.
