WestJet has officially announced the re-introduction of Boeing 737 Max planes as early as January 21, 2021. 

According to CBC News, the planes had previously been banned in the country and around the world following two deadly crashes in just five months.

On January 21, pending Transport Canada’s reopening of the skies to the MAX aircraft, we are planning to operate three weekly round trip flights between Calgary and Toronto on our MAX. WestJet

The announcement by WestJet, released on January 6, says that the safety of their guests and crew is their top priority. 

"Due to the continued closure of the Canadian airspace to the 737 MAX, WestJet's MAX aircraft remain grounded to commercial travel; however, we are currently preparing our aircraft for a phased and safe return to service," the airline wrote.

Apparently, they will be adding additional routes between Calgary and Toronto to their winter flight schedule. 

They shared a video of the preparation process behind the return of the 737 Max. 

WestJet’s Chief 737 Pilot, Jimmy-Dean Porter, says they're completely confident in the safety of the planes and their readiness to return to service.  

Director of Line Maintenance John Romane says that they are ensuring they both meet and exceed Transport Canada's standards with the reintroduction of the Boeing 737 Max planes into WestJet's fleet.
