Police are sharing their side of the story.

A video of a recent Calgary hockey rink arrest has gone viral all over social media and the Calgary Police Service (CPS) has shared an open letter about their side of the story.

The arrest video shows a 21-year-old man with his skates on being held and eventually taken down and arrested by two cops. According to the police's open letter, they were called to the rink when reports were made to Bylaw Services about over 40 people using the area.

The video has been viewed over 100,000 times on Twitter and it is circulating on Facebook and TikTok.

Calgary police say that the man was arrested for obstruction of an officer and resisting arrest because he was allegedly refusing to give officers his name or stay with the officers when he was instructed to.

"The video only shows a portion of what was a long intervention," writes CPS. "Despite signage outlining the rules at the site, Bylaw services was called when over 40 people were using the area. They explained the restrictions but could not get the users to comply. Due to their non-compliance and the side of the group, we were called to assist."

The statement continues to say that the arrest was because the man was trying to avoid law enforcement.

In their post, CPS say that they have received many questions and concerns about the arrest. As the videos have gained traction online, the reactions have been polarizing.

Some individuals have said that what the officers did was wrong, while others think the same of the man who was arrested.
