It's close to Calgary!

A small town in Alberta. Right: Small town outside of Calgary Alberta.

Alberta is full of cute small towns that offer up a slower-paced life, often cheaper living, and the signature picturesque views that the province is known for. This quaint small town in Alberta, with its charming streets and beautiful surroundings, has caught the attention of locals as one of the top places people want to move to.

Canadians on the Narcity Facebook Page named Cochrane as the spot they would want to move to if they could live anywhere in Alberta. The tight-knit community has that charming atmosphere that screams 'Hallmark small-town romance' with family-run businesses, ranching, and a Western vibe that transports you in time.

Its unique scenery also draws people in, with wide-open land stretching out and mountain peaks off in the distance. The town is nestled between Calgary and the Canadian Rockies, just 30 minutes outside of the city. While it's a short drive away, it feels like an escape from the hustle and bustle.

The historic downtown area of Cochrane is especially charming, with its iconic hotel as a landmark — The Rockyview Hotel. The hotel is 100 years old and looks like it's been plucked from a movie set, but it's renovated now, and you can actually stay there.

Strolling around downtown, you'll pass by lots of local stores and cute shops, like Found Books, MacKay's Ice Cream, and The Social Spot Marketplace.

You can really get your fill of local goodies at the Cochrane Farmers' Market, which runs every Saturday in the summer from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Like many places in Alberta, exploring the natural surroundings is also a key part of a visit. Cochrane is situated in the foothills, surrounded by rolling hills, thick forests, and flowing rivers. To the west of town, you'll see the iconic Rockies in the distance, giving a stunning view.

If you're staying in Cochrane, you can drive right outside of town to meet wolfdogs at the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. The sanctuary makes for a unique and fun activity, and they have different tour options to choose from.

If you want to keep the adventure going, Bar JO Ranch is 25 minutes from town and lets you experience the foothills on horseback.

Then you've got the trails all around for hiking, the river where you can paddleboard, and beautiful parks to explore.

Whether you want to hang out in a cute small town or want to explore some outdoor beauty — Cochrane's got a bit of everything.
