There's your typical go-to getaway destinations from Calgary (Banff, Jasper, Canmore — you probably know them well), but then there's the spots where crowds thin out but hold just as much beauty. If that's what you want this summer, then look to this little town, surrounded by incredible beauty.

It was dubbed one of the "best summer getaways from Calgary" on a Narcity Facebook poll, and a trip here won't disappoint.

Waterton is a small town site nestled within the beautiful Waterton Lakes National Park. It's about a three hour drive away from Calgary and is home to some incredible nature. While it's a bit of a drive away, it tends to be less busy than other tourist hot spots in the province, while still having a ton to do.

The little townsite is charming, with cozy spots to stay, local businesses, and tours to choose from.

Big Scoop Ice Cream Parlour screams summer vibes, and you've got spots like Waterton Park Cafe where you can grab a delicious burger (which is especially tasty after a day of exploring).

Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton is a beautiful landmark of the town, perched on the lakeside, and they host a high tea that'll make you feel like royalty.

While the town is cute, the main thing here is adventuring into the park. You can head out onto the sparkling lake on a boat cruise or kayaking tour, or stay on land by renting e-bikes or even going for a horseback ride.

You can also opt for going out and exploring the many trails, from the majestic mountain peaks to the lake views. Red Rock Canyon is a popular one here, since it's pretty easy but brings you to a stunning canyon with glacial water running through it.

This is also a Dark Sky Preserve so you can enjoy the full brilliance of the night sky here without the light pollution that you get in cities.

If you want an unforgettable weekend adventure, jump in the car and head to Waterton.
