Get out your planner, because Expedia just released its 2025 report for travel predictions, which lays out the travel landscape right now — and will have you adding spots to your bucketlist in no time.

One small town in Alberta earned a spot on the list of the top 'detour destinations' in the world.

Expedia combines data from its own site, Hotels.com, Vrbo as well as consumer reports to determine all of the ins and outs of travel for the year ahead. The report lets you inside the travel industry, laying out the top destinations, things to do, and what you don't want to miss out on in 2025.

A section of the report this year is Detour Destinations — places dubbed as must-see spots on the way to the big-name spots that usually get the hype.

"Detour Destinations are less well-known and crowded than tourist hotspots, but these rising stars are well worth putting on an itinerary, either as an add-on or the new, final destination. Discover the trending destinations for 2025," the Expedia report said.

Among the likes of California oases' and French retreats sits the small town of Canmore, Alberta.

Canmore is on the list as a detour from Calgary but is worth exploring all on its own. Just about an hour from the city this small town is the perfect gateway to explore the Rocky Mountains which the area is famed for.

The trademark peaks of the mountains are on full display here, including the ones of Three Sisters Mountain, which is a landmark of the town.

Explore the stunning hiking trails, the local galleries, and the picturesque town centre.

Get all of the beauty here without the crowds of other destinations like Banff, or the hustle and bustle of Calgary's city streets.

Tourist hot spots are out this year, and detour destinations are in!
