Canada Border Services Busted A Semi-Truck Carrying A 'Record Amount' Of Meth Into Alberta

On Christmas day, 2020, Canada Border Services made a record-breaking seizure of methamphetamine that led to RCMP charges for the person responsible. 

According to the Canadian Government, the semi-truck was trying to enter the country at the Coutts, Alberta border crossing

Upon further inspection, the "produce" truck was carrying 228.14 kilograms of methamphetamine. 

The estimated street value of the drugs was a whopping $28.5 million. 

"This is the CBSA’s largest seizure of methamphetamine at a land border crossing on record across Canada," said the news release.

The driver of the truck was a 38-year-old Calgary man who has been charged with two different counts under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

He's since been released and is awaiting trial in Lethbridge in February. 

"Seizing and effectively preventing this enormous amount of methamphetamine from reaching our streets will have a positive impact on the safety of all Alberta communities," reads the release.
