Canada Revenue Agency is hiring for positions that require you to conduct investigations into taxpayers who are suspected of tax evasion.

These CRA jobs are high-paying — you could make close to or even more than $100,000 a year!

The federal agency's Criminal Investigations Division is recruiting people to work as Investigators related to tax evasion and non-compliance with Canada's tax laws.

This hiring process will be primarily used to staff Investigator positions in Mississauga, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax but could be used to fill similar positions within the agency.

For these government of Canada jobs, the CRA salary is from $88,261 to $107,249 a year.

The job duties of Investigators include:

  • conducting investigations into financial schemes of taxpayers suspected of tax evasion
  • acting as a search coordinator in the presence of taxpayers who are suspected of violations
  • acting as a primary witness in court regarding investigations
  • conducting research and forensic financial analysis to establish proof of tax offences and to document and prove any fraudulent schemes
  • establishing the theory of proof, conducting interviews, evaluating witnesses, procuring and preserving all evidence and defences to determine whether a criminal prosecution recommendation is warranted, and preparing a prosecution report
  • assisting lawyers in disclosing all relevant information, documents and materials to the taxpayer and their legal representation

You need a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in accounting or the eligibility to get a designation from a recognized professional accounting association.

Experience conducting investigations into financial fraud, forensic accounting and audits as part of civil or criminal investigations, internal audits, or external audits and/or review engagements of corporate financial statements is required as well.

The CRA offers hybrid work arrangements where employees have to work in-office at least two days a week or 40% of their regular monthly work schedule.
