Alberta's top doctor just issued an explanation about a recent health order that was quietly made over the weekend

Dr. Deena Hinshaw took to Twitter on Monday, August 31, to say that she's aware of the criticism that's emerged following her decision to scrap physical distancing in Alberta classrooms. Her order was signed on Saturday, August 29.

This timing was not to hide information from Albertans but to ensure school authorities knew about the order before it came into effect today.

In another tweet, she said that she understands the concerns. Going forward, she plans to release the orders on Mondays through Thursdays.

She'll also be posting them on social media as they're released.

The top doctor said her approach to maintaining safety in Alberta schools hasn't changed since the province's first announcement on mask-wearing in schools.
