In early 2021, Starbucks Canada is set to open a sustainably built store and it will be the first of its kind for the coffee chain.

The new drive-thru Starbucks location was constructed in less than a week and because of how it was built, there was almost no construction waste at all.

The new eco-friendly store was designed, manufactured and constructed by Nexii Building Solutions, a Vancouver-based green building company.

It's located in Abbotsford, B.C. and was designed to reduce heating and cooling energy needs.

The new Starbucks' location was able to be built in just six days and reduce waste because panels for the roof and walls were manufactured offsite, making the assembly simpler.

Those panels were designed to be airtight and thermally efficient so the store will need less energy to warm up and cool down.

Speaking of sustainability, Tim Hortons recently announced some eco-friendly practices of its own.

That includes changing to 100% recyclable sandwich and bagel wrappers, along with testing out reusable cups and food containers that you return after using.
