Some Canadian Students Will Qualify For Free Tax Help Via Video Chat In 2021

You can get help related to refunds and credits, too!💰
Managing Editor, Canada

Ahead of tax time, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is reminding students that they may be eligible for free tax help in Canada this year.

In a new notice, shared via Twitter, the federal agency told students who are “tight on time and money” that they could access support related to tax returns, refunds, benefits and credits.

According to the CRA, free tax help is available for students with a “modest income and a simple tax situation.”

The volunteers will be able to support you via video chat or via phone, or even through “a document drop-off arrangement.”

The support may be especially helpful in 2021, as officials have warned that tax time this year is going to be “incredibly complicated.”

It’s expected to be more complex due to COVID-19 benefits, which are taxable and must be reported as income.

There has been eligibility confusion related to several federal benefits, including the CERB, which may contribute to issues come tax time.

Fortunately, the CRA has been sharing tax tips ahead of April and even explained Canadians’ biggest mistakes when completing their taxes.
