The highest COVID-19 infection rates in Canada right now are among young people in their 20s and 30s, according to Dr. Theresa Tam.

In a statement put out on April 20, she said that there's an "acceleration of COVID-19 activity" and explained where COVID-19 is circulating.

"While COVID-19 continues to impact people of all ages in Canada, infection rates are highest among those aged 20 to 39 years of age," Tam said.

She noted that transmission among younger, more mobile and social adults means there's an "ongoing risk" of spread to high-risk populations and settings.

According to the country's top doctor, social gatherings have been identified as "an important driver for spread."
