In a new message, shared on January 5, he revealed that over 8,400 Canadians had tested on New Year’s Eve.
It was an increase of almost 1,000 more cases than were reported the day before, he said.
Sharing the figures, the PM acknowledged that Canadians have “heard this before,” but said now is not the time to let our guards down.
Getting serious, he added, “These aren’t just numbers. These are people’s lives. That is what’s at stake.”
In a follow-up tweet, Trudeau encouraged everybody to continue to follow public health advice.
“Our choices matter,” he wrote, urging Canadians to wear masks, wash their hands, avoid gatherings, download theand “stay home as much as possible.”
On the same day, duringthe prime minister took aim at anybody going on international vacations right now.
He said thatare “very clear” right now and said that people “need to take this seriously.”
“Not following the rules could mean real consequences,he concluded on Tuesday.
