Vaughan Mills Is Trending On Twitter As People Prepare For The Retail Lockdown Fallout
They're bracing for crowds.
On Friday, Doug Ford announced thatwill be shutting down amid a major surge in COVID-19 cases.
This will take immediate effect on Monday, November 23 at 12:01 a.m.
However, York Region, just north of Toronto, will stay in the red zone which means stores will remain open.
The move has created a Twitter trend with people online anticipating hundreds of shoppers flocking to malls on the outskirts of lockdown regions.
Vaughan Mills is apparently one of the victims. And we have the memes to prove it.
This tweet compares the possibility of non-residents coming in numbers to shop at Vaughan Mills. It goes as far as to compare the possible crowd to a scene from the film World War Z featuring Brad Pitt.
Others took this time to think of the retail workers in the mall who may have to deal with the onslaught of shoppers headed their way.
Even some of the employees had something to say.
And as Black Friday looms, many are expecting to see a large crowd too.
It's worth noting that the Ontario government says "individuals and families in higher transmission areas should avoid travel to lower transmission areas (for example, from red to orange, from yellow to green), except for essential reasons."
So a trip from Toronto or Peel to Vaughan for deals is not recommended right now.
