On April 8, 2021, at 12:01 a.m, Ontario's stay-at-home order went into effect, limiting all retail to essential items only

This means that big box stores, like Walmarts in Ontario, are having to use makeshift blockades to stop customers from browsing non-essential goods.

Some Ontarians have also noticed that certain items in big box stores, such as face masks, clothing or shoes, have been blocked off and deemed non-essential.

A customer at an Ontario Walmart took to Twitter to express confusion over what has been deemed essential and what hasn't.

Some have noted that water bottles have been used to block off school supplies, as well.

Face masks were also blocked off in one Ontario Walmart location. Narcity has reached out to Walmart to inquire if this policy will be changed.

Currently, the Ontario government states that only "grocery items, pet care supplies, household cleaning supplies, pharmaceutical items, health care items, and personal care items," are considered essential.
