Foods are being recalled across Canada due to listeria, E. coli, insects, wood pieces and more.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recently shared multiple recall notices for foods sold across Canada, including popular products like burrata cheese, gummy candies and even more frozen waffles.

These recalls, affecting everything from frozen foods to packaged goods and even deli meats, are due to various safety concerns — including potential listeria and E. coli contamination and even foreign objects like insects and pieces of wood.

This fresh round of recalls also includes even more waffles following last week's huge recall of frozen waffles sold by major Canadian retailers like Walmart, Loblaws and Sobeys due to possible listeria contamination. That recall has been expanded once already since then to include even more brands, flavours and sizes, as well as various frozen pancakes. Now, certain 365 Whole Foods-label waffles are also being recalled, adding more items for consumers to double-check.

The CFIA urges Canadians to check their kitchens for any of these recalled products and to either throw them out or return them to the store where they were bought. Here's a rundown of nine of the latest food items being recalled in Canada and why they're being flagged.

Recalled products:

  • 365 Whole Foods Market Organic Homestyle Waffles, 210 g — best before October 1, 2024 to October 11, 2025
  • 365 Whole Foods Market Organic Blueberry Waffles, 210 g — best before October 1, 2024 to October 11, 2025

Recall reason: Horizon Distributors Ltd (also known as Horizon Grocery + Wellness) is recalling two flavours of Whole Foods' house-label frozen waffles due to possible contamination from Listeria monocytogenes. There have been no reported illnesses associated with these products as of the time of publishing, and the recalling firm is not the same company as the larger waffle recall from last week. The CFIA says the affected products were sold in B.C. and "possibly other provinces and territories," so if you shop at Whole Foods, you may want to check your freezer no matter what province you're in.

Recall reason: Various brands of Ham in Jelly (Jelly Pork) are being recalled in Ontario due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes after the CFIA discovered potential contamination during a foodborne illness investigation. Although no illnesses have been reported related to these products, the CFIA is verifying that the industry is removing all affected products from the marketplace.

The recalled ham products may have been sold in different formats, including clerk-served at deli counters, which means they may lack a proper label with specific brand information, product names, or best-before dates. Consumers are urged to avoid eating, serving, or selling any potentially affected ham products and to contact their retailer if they're unsure about a recent purchase. The CFIA’s ongoing investigation could lead to additional recalls.
