The RCMP Commissioner might soon be out of a job because the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations is calling on Justin Trudeau to remove her from the position.

On Twitter, Perry Bellegarde shared a thread of tweets about the ongoing situation regarding the safety of First Nations people all over the country.

He says he's going to write to the prime minister to explain that there's no longer confidence in RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki.

I am asking the Prime Minister to remove Commissioner Lucki and to replace her with someone who will focus their attention on public safety and combating racism.

Bellegarde said that the top priority of the prime minister and the federal government has to be the safety and security of every Canadian including all First Nations people.

"I am asking the Prime Minister to remove Commissioner Lucki and to replace her with someone who will focus their attention on public safety and combating racism," he said.

Before the Bellegarde tweeted this, Lucki spoke about the violence and harassment Mi'kmaw fishers have been facing out east as they try to fish for a moderate livelihood.

She acknowledged systemic racism within the RCMP but said that by officers.

Trudeau recently said that because of concerns around how the RCMP has dealt with the situation, his government will look closely at whether officers are doing their job of keeping people safe.
