The Rockies are lovely in the summer, but it's not the best idea to sightsee right now if you're from the States; an American got charged in Banff after visiting tourist landmarks.

According to CBC News, Kentucky resident John Pennington was arrested after being spotted hanging out around the Banff Gondola the day he was supposed to be headed home to the U.S.

This is the only arrest we have made under the Quarantine Act.

Staff Sgt. Michael Buxton-Carr

He was first given a ticket for $1,200 on Thursday, June 25, after entering Canada from Alaska and staying at the Rimrock Hotel.

According to the Canada Border Services Agency, Americans are allowed to travel to and from Alaska through Canada, as long as they avoid hotels and the public.

Aside from being the first arrest, Pennington was also the recipient of the only ticket given out so far by Banff RCMP under the quarantine act; he will appear in court in November.
