A New Petition Has Popped Up To Reopen One Of Atlanta's Most Popular Parks Closed By COVID
The Heart of Downtown Atlanta.
in Atlanta, Georgia has been closed to the public indefinitely since Monday, July 6, and downtown residents have raised a call to action to reopen it.
Due to COVID-19, negative financial impacts have left the park in limbo for reopening; the canceling of many summer activities that would normally be hosted there not only reduced people coming to the park, but alsothat would come with them.
Closing off the Park also goes directly against Downtown's Master Plan and its key goals...
Heidi Johnson created the petition, citing the park's closure as a contributing factor to struggling business downtown, as well as its role as the— a front lawn to the city's 5,000 permanent residents.
As of publication, the petition created a week ago is starting to gain momentum, with 539 signatures so far.
By signing the petition, supporters are calling on state leaders and officials to work together to re-open the space for the benefit of and their quality of life, business owners' success, and visitors alike.
