If you're planning a weekend getaway, this gorgeous Ontario destination is the place to be. With dreamy natural wonders, cozy villages, sandy beaches and more, it's a little slice of paradise just a road trip from Toronto.

A recent survey conducted by Context Research Group (CRG) on behalf of Destination Ontario revealed some of Ontario's top travel trends.

"Destination Ontario's recent survey confirms that, with uncertainty south of the border, now more than ever Ontarians are opting for homegrown tourism offerings that celebrate our collective identity, embrace our shared history, and support our local economy," Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming said in a press release.

"When booking summer getaways and fall excursions over the coming months, I encourage all Ontario residents to look to the rich, varied experiences available across our beautiful province."

In the survey, participants were asked to share their favourite destinations for a short getaway, and this area stood out as a top choice.

The Niagara Region emerged as a locally loved escape, with 52% of respondents choosing it as their go-to spot.

According to Ontarians, Niagara's range of attractions makes it the perfect place for a getaway. The region boasts waterparks, casinos, wineries, museums, and more, so there's no shortage of things to do.

Its food scene was also a major draw, with locals naming wineries, fine dining, and casual culinary options as highlights of their trip.

Of course, the main highlight is Niagara Falls, a breathtaking natural wonder surrounded by many attractions and parks.

While you're in the region, you can also explore some of the charming towns and villages dotted around the countryside.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a popular tourist destination known for its old-world streets and European vibes. Other quaint towns include Grimsby, Pelham, and Jordan Village.

During the summer months, you can head to some of Niagara's scenic beaches. Crystal Beach in Fort Erie offers white sand shores and sparkling waves, making it a beautiful spot for a beach day.

Other top Ontario destinations for a short getaway named in the survey include Toronto and Muskoka.

If you're dreaming of a weekend escape, Niagara is worth a road trip.
