It's a road trip from Toronto.

Lead Writer, Travel

Summer is in full swing, and that means it's the perfect time to plan a trip to Ontario's "beach capital." Offering gorgeous sandy shorelines, quaint lakeside towns and sparkling waves, it's an idyllic spot for a day trip or weekend getaway.

The dreamy destination is located a road trip away from Toronto and is brimming with beaches, warm-weather activities and more to enjoy.

Niagara's South Coast is a summer gem perched along the scenic shores of Lake Erie. It's renowned for its rich history, friendly townships, vibrant arts scene, and stunning shorelines.

According to the website, it's Ontario's "unofficial beach capital," and is home to several stunning sandy stretches where you can swim, sunbathe, and enjoy the laid-back summer vibes.

One such destination is Bay Beach, also known as Crystal Beach. Located in Fort Erie, this dreamy spot will have you feeling like you're in the tropics as you wander along the white sand shores and splash through the warm waves.

You can also head to Port Colborne's Nickel Beach, where you'll find a powdery stretch of sand and clear waters.

Other beaches to visit in the region include Waverly Beach, Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach, Long Beach and Reebs Bay Beach.
Some beaches, like Bay Beach, require a day pass, so it's best to plan ahead.

Aside from enjoying the beaches, Niagara's South Coast offers outdoor adventures, charming communities and more to explore.
You can wander along some of the region's scenic trails, such as the Friendship Trail or Welland Canals Parkway Trail, where you'll find breathtaking views.

You'll also want to spend some time in the quaint villages like Port Colborne or Crystal Beach, which are home to local boutiques, eateries, and more.

The area boasts a rich history, and you can learn all about it by visiting sites like Old Fort Erie and the Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum.

With coastal charm, dreamy shorelines and warm waters, Ontario's "beach capital" is a summer gem waiting to be explored.
