You can discover a little slice of Europe nestled amidst the Ontario countryside. This small village with German roots is an enchanting hidden gem known as one of the prettiest towns in the province.
Located in scenic Grey County, the tiny but charming village dates back to the mid-1800s and boasts stone shops, historic buildings, and more.
Neustadt is a cute spot for a summer day trip. The town was founded by a German settler, and the European influence can still be seen in the old-world streets today. It's known as one of the "prettiest towns in Ontario" and has no shortage of charm.
The town features several quaint shops and buildings straight out of a storybook. You'll want to stop by Granny's General Store, a traditional general store with groceries, an ice cream bar, baked goods, and more.
Other spots to check out include the European-inspired gift boutique Atelier 522 and the local restaurant Noah's Inn Fish & Chips.
A highlight of the area is the Neustadt Springs Brewery. Founded in 1859, the brewery, now Neustadt Springs, is considered the "oldest operating original brewery building in Ontario" and is located on "one of the finest sources of pure spring water in all of Canada," according to the website.
You can also head to the town's Trail of Dreams, a creekside path featuring whimsical surprises and installations.
Or, visit the nearby Sulphur Spring Conservation Area, where you'll find a cold sulphur spring and scenic hikes.
