2 Ontario towns were named among the 'most charming' in Canada — These 7 others were snubbed

Here are the places I'd add to the list.

Looking for a quaint small town getaway?

A recent study by betting platform Betway revealed the five "most charming small towns in Canada" and two Ontario destinations made the list.

Both Owen Sound and Brockville were recognized for their landmarks, parks and more, but I think there are a few other Ontario small towns that should have been included in the roundup.

From quaint harbour villages to historic hidden gems, these Ontario spots are not to be missed when it comes to beautiful destinations in Canada.

Here's my roundup of 7 small towns in Ontario that hands-down should've been named among Canada's "most charming."

Elora

Why You Need To Go: Elora is the first place that comes to mind when I think of charming small towns in Ontario. Located just outside of Toronto, the village is brimming with European vibes and is a magical place to spend a day or longer.

The town has even been dubbed "Ontario's most beautiful village," according to the Elora website, so it definitely deserves a spot on the list.

There are endless things to enjoy in Elora. You'll want to spend some time exploring the unique local boutiques and indulging in food at the quaint restaurants and cafes.

If you're in need of some pampering, you can treat yourself to a spa day at the Elora Mill Hotel & Spa.

During the summer, the Elora Quarry is the place to be. The popular swimming hole is known for its turquoise waters and towering white cliffs that will transport you to another world.

Bayfield

Why You Need To Go: You'll find endless charm and gorgeous views at this lakeside town. Bayfield is full of storybook vibes and is a gorgeous spot for a getaway year-round.

According to the town's website, you can take a "stress-free countryside road trip where you [will] find one-of-a-kind boutique shopping, unique restaurants, wineries, breweries, hiking, accommodations, and more."

The town is like a "Hallmark experience" and is lined with cute shops and restaurants. You'll find everything from wine bars to cafes, breweries and pubs, as well as clothing boutiques, bookstores and more. You could even book an overnight stay at The Little Inn.

The town is also home to three beautiful beaches. Pier Beach is the most popular of the three and is just a short walk from the village. It features sandy shores, a pier and public washrooms and is a great spot to take a dip during the summer months.

St. Jacobs Village

Why you need to go: Another small town that I think deserves some recognition is the beautiful St. Jacobs Village. Located just over an hour from Toronto, the historic destination will have you feeling like you've travelled through time as you explore the old-world streets and buildings.

You can enjoy a meal at some of the cozy bakeries and drool-worthy restaurants, take a ride on the Waterloo Central Railway, see a show at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse and discover other adventures around the village during your visit.

There are so many local shops to check out, from toy stores to tea shops and more.

You'll want to spend some time at the iconic St. Jacobs Farmers' Market, located just outside the town.

It's Canada's largest year-round farmer's market and features fresh produce, handcrafted goods and more.

Don't leave without trying one of the famous apple fritters.

Perth

Why you need to go: A list of charming Ontario towns isn't complete without Perth. Offering European charm, tons of attractions and historic beauty, this small town is an enchanting place for a road trip.

With over 200 years of history and Scottish roots, you'll feel like you've taken a trip to another land.

From exploring the Perth Museum to checking out the Mammoth Cheese and Big Red Chair, there's lots to explore.

The 5-acre Stewart Park is a charming place to spend an afternoon. Located in the heart of the downtown, the park features lush gardens, storybook bridges and mature trees.

According to the website, the town is home to"a restaurant roster that ranges from delicious pub eats to mouth-watering fine dining to thirst-quenching brews and spirits" so you'll want to bring your appetite.

The town hosts festivals year-round, including Christmas celebrations and summer festivities, so there's always something going on.

Village of Merrickville-Wolford

Why You Need To Go: When it comes to the most charming small towns in Canada, Merrickville is a must-visit. The enchanting village was named "Canada's Most Beautiful Village" in 1998 by Communities in Bloom and offers endless beauty.

According to the website, you can explore a "unique and vibrant Victorian village" set along the waters of the Rideau Canal.

The village has a thriving arts scene and you can spend some time wandering through studios and checking out the local jewelry, glass, pottery and more.

The Merrickville Chamber website states that "Merrickville is renowned for its boutiques, which are filled with one-of-a-kind items made by local artists and artisans," so it's a great spot to go on a little shopping spree.

There are also lots of outdoor activities to enjoy, from cycling and kayaking to hiking and skating during the winter.

Why You Need To Go: Another one of my top charming small towns is Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a super romantic small town to visit year-round and was even named among the 25 best destinations in the world for a honeymoon in Tripadvisor's Traveler's Choice Awards.

With delicious local restaurants, cute shops and European beauty, it's a gorgeous spot for a day trip or weekend getaway.

One of the main draws of the town is the surrounding wineries so you can sip boozy drinks explore lush vineyards.

The town is home to a number of spas where you can get totally pampered.

If you have a sweet tooth, you don't want to miss out on a trip to the iconic COWS parlour for an ice cream cone.
