The Ontario Support for Learners application is opening up soon for high school students and the benefit offers $200.

The province put this benefit in place to provide financial support for any additional schooling costs people are having because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

January 11 applications open for high school students

Students from age 13 to grade 12 are now included in the program to get $200 and that covers students who are in high school and are over 18 years old.

Applications open on January 11 for those students and close on February 8 for everyone who is eligible.

To get the benefit, applications are done online with only one per student allowed and it has to be completed by a parent or guardian.

On January 9, Education Minister Stephen Lecce reminded Ontarians about the program and said that it will take about two weeks to get the money through e-transfer or direct deposit.

Originally, it was only available for children up to 12 years old and kids or youth with special needs up to 21 years old.

For students in southern Ontario, virtual learning has been extended until at least January 25.
