In a statement shared with the public on June 30, The Gatineau Police Department (SPVG) confirmed that a woman was arrested on June 29, following the discovery of a baby’s body.

The police report states that officers responded to a call at around 5 p.m. on June 29, after a local man made a “macabre discovery” at the back of an apartment building.

The building is located on Mont-Bleu Boulevard in the Hull region of Gatineau.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found the body of an infant. The statement says that it was not possible to try and save the baby’s life.

No additional information about the infant has been released at this time.

There were several witnesses, according to police, all of whom have been spoken to since Monday night.

Police also said that a woman in her 20s was arrested on Monday night, and they confirmed that she is a Gatineau resident.

While the SPVG did not provide any additional information about the relationship between the woman who was arrested and the baby, the release confirms that the child’s death occurred in an “intra-family context.”

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Local residents and police officers involved with the case have been offered mental health support, according to the news release.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact Gatineau Police at 819-243-4636.

An investigation is ongoing.
