Canada is a good place to call home right now. A new ranking just found that Canada has been one of the safest countries in the world during COVID-19. While our country didn't quite crack the top 10, we're just a few spots away from it.

An assessment report and ranking were put out by Deep Knowledge Group this month, focusing on regional safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The chart ranks the economic, social and health stability of 200 countries on Earth, along with their strengths and weaknesses against the current health and economic crisis.

Of the places analyzed and ranked, Canada came in 12th place, and is therefore considered to be one of the safest places in the world during the ongoing pandemic.

Canada is the only country in North and South America to have made it into the top 40 of this safety ranking.

To figure this all out, 130 qualitative and quantitative factors were considered for each country.

Countries were judged on things like quarantine efficiency, the government's risk management, monitoring and detection of COVID-19, healthcare readiness, regional resiliency and emergency preparedness.

Canada got a cumulative score of 699.

That's just 53 points less than the score of Switzerland, the safest country according to the ranking.

While Canada didn't rank as highly as Switzerland, the True North got higher scores in both "emergency preparedness" and "monitoring and detection."

Canada's lowest overall score was for our "healthcare readiness," while the highest was for the federal government's "efficiency of risk management."

The list places Canada before countries like Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and Hungary.

In this particular ranking, the United States didn't make it into the top 50. Our closest neighbour actually came in 58th place.

As of June 23, Canada has just over 101,00 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, and just over 8,436 deaths.

Top-ranked Switzerland has more than 31,000 cases and almost 2,000 deaths related to the disease.

At the very bottom of the list was South Sudan, the country currently has 1,916 total cases of COVID-19.
