You don't have to go far to experience the charm of island life. This majestic Ontario island boasts turquoise waters, sandy beaches, and more, making it a top hidden gem to explore.

In a post on Narcity Canada's Facebook page, we asked readers for their favourite hidden gems across the county that tourists might not know about. This stunning Ontario island was among the destinations highlighted.

Pelee Island, located on the shining waters of Lake Erie, is a top hidden gem to discover, locals say.

It's the largest island in the Western Basin of Lake Erie and is "one of Canada's best-kept secrets," according to the website.

The destination is actually known as "the birthplace of winemaking in Canada," so you'll definitely want to stop by Pelee Island Winery, "Canada's Southernmost Estate Winery," according to the website.

During your visit, you can soak up beautiful vineyard views, indulge in woodfired pizza, and, of course, sip some refreshing drinks.

There are endless trails to explore by bike or on foot, such as Lighthouse Point, which features a boardwalk and sandy beach.

The Pelee Island Waterfront Trail is a 28-kilometre loop that takes you along serene country roads and through small villages, farmland, vineyards, and natural areas.

Bring your bathing suit because the island is home to the "best of Lake Erie beaches," according to Discover Pelee Island, and you can enjoy soft sand and warm waters.

Swimming destinations include Fish Point Nature Reserve, Lighthouse Point Provincial Nature Reserve and Sunset Beach.

Beyond its natural wonders, Pelee Island boasts an array of attractions, including restaurants and museums.

To reach this enchanting island, you can hop on a 90-minute ferry from Leamington, with service set to resume in March.

With its stunning beaches and natural beauty, Pelee Island is a dream destination for your summer vacation.
