The Toronto Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly and retired Olympic ice dancer Tessa Virtue are married.

The couple secretly tied the knot and while it may come as a surprise to some people, eagle-eyed fans have been speculating whether the two were married for months.

Hello! Canada reported the exciting wedding news on February 1 with photos from not one, but two wedding celebrations.

The outlet reports the couple got married in Toronto at Noce Restaurant and then again in Tuscany, Italy.

As for why they kept their big day a secret, Virtue told Hello! they wanted to "savour the moment for themselves."

"You know when something is just so meaningful to you that you simultaneously want to just hold on to it and protect it so fiercely, and also shout it from the rooftops?" Virtue told Hello!

While the news might come as a shock to many people, fans of Rielly and Virtue have been guessing whether the two have been married since late 2023.

Many people left comments on Rielly's Instagram posts after he appeared to be wearing what looked like a wedding band in several photos.

"Is that a wedding band???" one person wrote on a photo shared in November 2023.

More comments could be seen in another photo shared in October 2023.

"Wearing a wedding band? Are they already married?" one person asked.

Some people began speculating on the October 2023 post that the wedding in Italy happened in July 2023, but that date hasn't been confirmed.

Virtue shared the news about their engagement on January 3, 2023, when she talked about it on the Without Losing Your Cool podcast.

The couple has kept their relationship very private so an exact timeline isn't known. However, they were linked together as far back as 2020 after Rielly revealed they were in self-isolation in North Vancouver during a conference call, according to the NHL.

Narcity spoke with Virtue back in October 2023 following her and Scott Moir's induction ceremony into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. We asked Virtue about wedding plans, but she didn't reveal any details at the time.

"We might have more to share on that soon [...] But I can say we're just so happy and excited about the life we're building together," Virtue said.

Narcity reached out to Spotlight Agency, which represents Virtue, about the wedding but we did not hear back by the time the story was published.
