Starting 2021 off by breaking glass ceilings.

The highly-anticipated Georgia Senate runoff election is beginning to wrap up, and history could be made by both Democratic candidates.

Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock has officially defeated his opponent, Kelly Loeffler, while the race between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican David Perdue goes on, with no decision yet as of Wednesday morning.

Joy comes in the morning. Thank you, Georgia. Senator-Elect Raphael Warnock

Warnock officially made history by becoming the first African American to be elected Senator in the state of Georgia.

Prior to being elected, Warnock served as the senior pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, where Martin Luther King Jr. also served as a pastor.

Along his side in the Democratic party is Jon Ossoff, who could soon be elected to the Senate at the young age of 33, making him the youngest Democrat elected to the role since Joe Biden in 1973 at just 30 years old.

Votes are continuing to be counted in the runoff election, so there is not yet a set winner in the race between Jon Ossoff and David Perdue as of 11 a.m. EST on Wednesday, but Ossoff continues to hold a narrow lead with 98% of the ballots counted.
