Rugged cliffs, crystal-clear waters and coastal charm await in this enchanting Ontario town. Offering quaint shops, stunning natural wonders and hidden beaches, it's a breathtaking spot for a summer escape.

Recently, we asked readers on Facebook to share what they think are the best summer getaways in Ontario, and this charming harbour town was one of the spots mentioned.

Situated about 4 hours away from Toronto, the destination is renowned for its crystal-clear waters that will have you feeling like you're on a Mediterranean vacay.

Tobermory is a tiny town perched at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula on the shimmering waters of Georgian Bay.

According to the town's tourism website, it's a "breathtaking vacation spot" and the "eighth wonder of Canada."

There's a lot to enjoy in the region. The small but charming downtown is dotted with ice cream parlours, scenic restaurants and cute local shops where you can find a range of treats, souvenirs and more.

During the day, you can wander the harbour with an ice cream in hand, and in the evening, unwind on a patio and enjoy freshly caught fish as the sun sets over the water.

Tobermory and the surrounding area are known as the "Shipwreck Capital of Canada," and you can discover around two dozen sunken vessels beneath the shimmering waves. There are diving and boat tours available which let you explore the wrecks up close.

One of the best aspects of Tobermory is its stunning landscapes. The town is located near the Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park, making it a nature enthusiast's dream come true.

You can explore the dramatic limestone cliffs of the Bruce Peninsula National Park and hike your way to the iconic Grotto — an ancient sea cave surrounded by turquoise water. The park is also home to Indian Head Cove, where you can take a dip in the cold but breathtaking waters.

Flower Pot Island is another stunning spot to visit in the region. Accessible by boat, the island boasts unique rock formations, beautiful hikes and turquoise-water swimming spots.

If you're up for a longer adventure, you can hop on the ferry from Tobermory and check out Manitoulin Island, the largest freshwater island in the world.

Tobermory is a not-so-hidden gem, which means it's a good idea to plan ahead. You'll want to book reservations, parking passes, and accommodations well in advance of your visit.

With its shimmering turquoise waters and breathtaking natural wonders, it's no surprise readers say Tobermory is one of Ontario's best summer getaways.
