Thousands of Toronto hospital workers have still not received COVID-19 vaccines, University Health Network (UHN) reveals.

On Monday, the UHN sent a letter to employees encouraging them to get vaccinated after it was discovered around 4,000 had still not booked an appointment.

"This is all the more worrisome as we see a third wave beginning and the rapid rise of variants, which make COVID-19 much more infectious and possibly more severe and deadly," read the letter.

UNH also reported on Monday that there were areas and programs within the network where vaccination "remains below 50% of people."

However, the company revealed to Narcity that since the letter was sent, another 1,000 people have signed up to get vaccinated. "It reduces the number of people we haven’t heard from yet to 3,000 and we estimate that we are about 85% vaccinated," Gillian Howard, UHN spokesperson, told Narcity.
